The Brick Invitation Super Novice Hockey Tournament Executive relies on qualified, committed volunteers to maintain the high standards of fun mixed with professionalism this tournament has achieved. The volunteers' time, effort and quality of work are the ingredients that make this tournament so prestigious. Although work on the tournament is done all year round, we begin to start filling our volunteer position requirements in April and May. Positions1. Volunteer Coordinator The Volunteer Coordinator duties in general are to seek out volunteers and schedule these volunteers for positions of Team Representatives and Off Ice Officials. The position works closely with the Tournament Executive and other Coordinator Positions. The time commitment includes but is not limited to the following: a) During the week of the tournament this position must be available to ensure the volunteers are adhering to the schedule, fulfilling their duties and is prepared to fill in spots with other volunteers or personally. b) During the week of the tournament this position will choose and notify the off ice volunteers for the play offs and final games. c) During the week of the tournament the position must be available to support and cover shifts to give relief to the Tournament Management and Executive During the week of the tournament the position must be available to support and cover shifts to give relief to the Tournament Management and Executive. d) During the year, you will commit to preparation and follow up meetings 2 or 3 times of approximately 2 hours in length. Team Representative The Team Representative acts as a contact between the Tournament Officials and the Team. The duties are to supply information as required from the team to the tournament as well as information from the tournament to the team. As well this volunteer will assist the team in general knowledge questions of the city and surrounding area. The extent of how involved you get is entirely up to you. In the past teams reps have not only supplied information on restaurants, skate sharpening, social activities but have stepped up and helped team management organize some team off ice events (golf, Eskimo games etc.). The minimum time commitment for game duties includes but is not limited to being available to the one hour prior to the game and 30 minutes following. During this time you will perform such duties as the following: a) Dressing room opening/closing b) Game Sheet -Start / End of game c) Player snacks d) All star ballot e) Skill The minimum time commitment for non game duties includes but is not limited to the following: a) Coaches' Meeting - 7:00 PM to 10:00 PM (evening prior to tournament start). b) Beach Party (all teams) - Saturday evening - 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM. c) Skills competition -9:00 AM to 11:30 AM Sunday AM d) Closing ceremonies (after final game) Sunday -2:00 PM to 3:00 PM If you are interested in this position please click on to the 'volunteer application' and apply now 3. Off Ice Officials The Off Ice Officials consist of 4 positions listed and explained individually below. Although training is provided it is important that these positions have a good understanding a basic knowledge of the game of hockey. The shifts cover 3 games in length (approx. 5 hours). · Morning Shift - 7:15 AM - 12:20 PM · Afternoon Shift - 12:15 PM - 5:20 PM · Evening Shift - 5:15 PM - 10:20 PM NOTE: Off ice officials to cover the semi final & final games will be made during the week of the tournament. a) Time Keeper The Time Keeper is an Off Ice Official who is responsible for the operation of the electronic time clock to ensure an accurate start, finish and penalty timekeeping of the game adhering to the tournament schedule. Although training is provided it is important that the volunteer in this position has a good understanding of the time clock equipment and its operation. If you are interested in this position please click on to the 'volunteer application' and apply now b) Score Keeper The Score Keeper is an Off Ice Official who is responsible for the handwritten keeping of the scoring, penalty information on a standardized hockey game sheet. The scorekeeper is responsible for calling over the information to the announcer's booth for the public address announcements of game occurrences. If you are interested in this position please click on to the 'volunteer application' and apply now c) Penalty Gate Keeper The Penalty Gate Keeper is an Off Ice Official who is the third person in the penalty box and is responsible for assisting the scorekeeper and timekeeper in their duties. If you are interested in this position please click on to the 'volunteer application' and apply now d) Goal Judge (2 per game) The Goal Judges are Off Ice Officials who are responsible for turning on the light when the puck crosses the line. The Goal Judge will also keep a count of the shots on goal made at the goal tender playing in front of them.
